Hello Beloiters!

This past Friday was Founders’ Day, when a group of New Englanders from Yale University decided to establish a college in the Midwest. These past 178 years are a testament to the college’s resilience, while reminding all of us that we are part of something enduring and meaningful.

We are grateful to the generations before and yet to come that allow our institution to be a space of transformational growth and learning. Cheers to many more years to come. 

Chelonia returns, featuring new guest artists

Chelonia, Beloit’s annual evenings of concert dance spanning multiple dance styles, will take place later this week. Evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with an afternoon matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

This year’s performances feature work by faculty members Chris Johnson and Gina T’ai, guest artists AJ Juarez and Taylor Manney, and choreography and performances by many students. 

Senior Class Wall Party

Plans are underway for the Senior Class Wall Party. Seniors are encouraged to share their ideas or preferences by March 14th. Seniors feedback will help us create an unforgettable experience. Basketball, track and field in action 

Beloit College men’s basketball team split a duo of Midwest Conference matchups.  The team won a nail-biter at Ripon College, 60-56 but dropped their home matchup to Cornell College 71-61. They are currently the third seed in the Midwest Conference and are looking to hold onto a tournament spot with three conference games to go.

The women’s team is on the outside looking in but picked up a much-needed win against Cornell College at home. The team lost their midweek matchup to the Ripon Red Hawks, who were undefeated at the time. The team picked up a win against the Cornell Rams 65-57, courtesy of a second-half explosion, when the Bucs scored 44 points.

Buccaneer track and field competed in the Red Hawk Invite over the weekend. The meet was highlighted by two women’s relay wins in the 4x200 and the 4x400. In men’s competition, Josh Yearby’27 captured the 60 M record for the second weekend in a row, beating his own record with a time of 6.98 seconds.

The general store that changed my life

Ella Diers'24 took a whirlwind tour out west last summer, thanks to the Hazeltine Prize.

This summer, Ella Diers’24 completed a whirlwind tour out west funded by the Haseltine Prize, a scholarship awarded to one media studies student each year to support a creative travel-based project. Ella recounts learning more about her family history — including visiting the site of her three-times great-grandfather’s general store, Diers Bros — camping among bison, and the confidence she found along the way.

Student Symposium will be on Thursday, April 18. Presentations abstracts from students are due March 19. Sponsor approval of abstracts is due March 25.

Student Commencement Speaker

Beloit College Senior Officers are searching for a student Commencement speaker who can inspire and represent the graduating class. If you know someone from the senior class with a compelling story, unique experiences, or a passion for motivating their peers, please nominate them, or self-nominate, by April 1.
