Hello Beloiters!

It’s the last week of classes. Take a moment to appreciate your hard work this semester before we move into study days and finals. You can do it!

Wright Museum features two student-curated exhibitions

The Wright Museum of Art is opening two Parker Faculty Class Curated Exhibitions this week: Decolonizing Sacred Entities and Narratives of War and Peace. Students, working with their professions, helped design each exhibit using objects from the Wright and Logan Museums.

Led by professors Natalie Gummer and Sonya Johnson, Decolonizing Sacred Entities “intends to draw the attention of the viewer to the multiple and fraught ways of seeing, interacting with, and valuing these objects that are so often also accorded subjectivity and agency.”

From Japanese 220 and professor Susan W. Furukawa, Narratives of War and Peace “analyzes multiple examples of war narratives in manga and museums and, as a result, develop a deeper understanding of how these stories impacted the way citizens and soldiers viewed themselves and their ‘enemies’ during World War II.”

An opening reception for both exhibits is Thursday, Dec. 7.

Also ongoing in the Wright is Form, Growth, and Variation, a showcase of the experimental prints of Helen Phillips from her early, transformative years in Paris, through her move to New York and back to Paris in the 1950s.
