Davis will call play-by-play for 50 road games and is the potential successor to the legendary Vin Scully, who is expected to retire as soon as next year after a storied 67-year career.

Davis has been with Fox Sports since 2014, calling Major League Baseball games, as well as college football and basketball. Before joining Fox, he was with ESPN. He’ll continue announcing for Fox Sports.

Anthony Fenech, a sports writer for The Detroit Free Press, reported in January on the impression Davis made on Dodgers Executive Vice President Lon Rosen, who first short-listed Davis for the role of following Scully. “You know when you hear something, and you know when it’s good,” Rosen said of Davis in the Press. “You can see the quality of his work, how much he really knows about the game, and stylistically how impressive it is to hear his command of the telecast.”

Davis, 28, got his start broadcasting at Beloit College, calling Buccaneer women’s and men’s basketball games. His meteoric rise in sports broadcasting was the subject of a profile that appeared in the summer 2015 edition of Beloit College Magazine.
